A HIGH-EFFICIENCY, ORIENTATION-INSENSITIVE EVAPORATOR Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • A novel evaporator design is presented that uses porous sintered metal on the interior and spines on the exterior to increase the heat transfer. For a given evaporator length, the amount of heat transferred was increased 8 to 10 times compared to conventional evaporators, which have neither porous sintered metal nor spines. The porous sintered metal allows the evaporator to be used in any orientation since liquid cannot escape and damage the refrigeration compressor.
