abstract
The use of poultry manure at high-solids content for anaerobic fermentation is logical but has a potential problem. The high nitrogen content of the manure can cause ammonia toxicity in the treatment process. Hashimoto (1983) suggested mixing crop residue with manure for nutritional compatibility of nitrogenous manure and carbonaceous but nitrogen deficient crop residue. The quantity and type of crop residue required for mixing depends upon the characteristics and availability of the particular residue. The objective of this research was to evaluate the high-solids, anaerobic digestion of poultry manure mixed with corn stover. The effects of solid concentration between 30% and 35% and the inoculum on gas production were studied.
