The synthesized pigments were characterized by X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and other techniques. Then the formed coatings were applied on carbon steel plates, to study its corrosion protection performance in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and open circuit potential (OCP). It was found that the presence of PAni emeraldine salt dopes by CSA can significantly improve the barrier and corrosion protection performance of the commercial zinc-rich epoxy primer. While non-conductive PAni EB seems to activate the zinc reaction, but it can provide better barrier protection, than commercial ZREP. Two parameters EAI and EAP were applied to check and evaluate the EIS results, compared with the fitting results by electrical equivalent circuits (EECs).
