PICOSECOND SPECTROSCOPY - METHODS AND RECENT APPLICATIONS Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • In the examples of studies presented here, we have demonstrated the variety of photophysical and photochemical events that can be investigated by means of picosecond spectroscopy. These studies and many other picosecond spectroscopic investigations have provided data that permit detailed understanding of the cascade of events that occurs on the ultrashort time scale when light is absorbed by a chromophore. With ever-improving laser systems and methods of optical detection and, of course, the ingenuity of the spectroscopist, the number of reactions that feasibly can be studied and the amount of detailed mechanistic information that can be provided by means of picosecond spectroscopy surely will continue to increase. 1983, American Chemical Society.
