Forage and Byproduct Utilization to Enhance the Sustainability of Beef Cattle Production

Ruminants are capable of converting noncompetitive sources of nutrients into food products that are of high-quality and highly desirable in the market place. Nutrients are becoming increasingly valuable; therefore, the need to effectively allocate them increases as does the need to optimize utilization. This project will focus on nutrient utilization in beef cattle production systems and generate knowledge that will increase the ability of beef production systems to convert consumed nutrients into human food. Ultimately, it will increase the sustainability of beef cattle production and provide data to demonstrate the value of beef production to the global protein supply and provide targets for improvement.
