abstract
The paper reports on a study to investigate the reliability and empirical dimensionality of a measure of perceived task attributes, the Job Characteristics Inventory. Data were collected from four diverse samples: manufacturing employees, retail sales associates, resident physicians, and MBA students. Factor analysis results indicated that the a priori dimensionality is somewhat consistent and reproduceable across samples. Implications for future research are discussed.
