abstract
Cavity-enhanced photothermal spectroscopy has been applied to perform ultrasensitive absorption measurements of thin films and liquid surfaces. Absorption coefficients of less than one part in 105 have been detected. Both spectral and time-resolved photothermal measurements have been carried out and the spatial resolution of the method has been investigated using a Ronchi ruling as the sample. The measurements are in qualitative agreement with our thermal modelling calculations.
