Highresolution Mass Spectrometry and Accurate Mass Measurements with Emphasis on the Characterization of Peptides and Proteins by Matrixassisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Timeofflight Mass Spectrometry Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Fundamental concepts of high-resolution mass spectrometry as it relates to the issue of accurate mass measurements are presented. Important issues specific to magnetic sector instruments, Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance and time-of-flight (TOF) methods are discussed. Recent high-resolution TOF measurements on peptides and proteins, ionized by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI), are presented and discussed in terms of basic concepts important to accurate mass measurements.
