Simultaneous Ejection of Two Molecular Ions from keV Gold Atomic and Polyatomic Projectile Impacts Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The simultaneous ejection of two molecular ions as a function of keV projectile characteristics was analyzed. Gold atomic and polyatomic projectiles were generated using a liquid metal ion source and the energy range was kept between 17 and 56 keV. The yields from single phenylalanine (Ph) emission, emission of the Ph dimer, and coemission of two Ph ions were calculated. The correlation coefficients for the coemission of two Ph ions were also calculated. As the projectile energy and complexity increased, coemitted ion yields also displayed large increase. Differences in emission pathways for bombardment by atomic and polyatomic projectiles were also indicated by the behavior of the Ph ions.
