Slavic-Language Material in OCLC and the Search for Matching Records Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The article begins with a review of bibliographic, geopolitical and historical justifications for the study of searching for Slavic-language material in the OCLC Online Union Catalog, the largest in the world. Based on examples collected at Texas A&M University during 1998-1999, it presents two brief but systematic analyses of problems in matching-record searching from two perspectives. The linguistic perspective covers chiefly transliteration and orthography, while the bibliographic one focuses on personal name and title searching. 2001 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
