abstract
The effect of a three-photon electromagnetically induced transparency in hot 85Rb vapour driven by two coherent electromagnetic fields was demonstrated. On the background of high-contrast Doppler-free subnatural absorption resonance the narrow transparency window was observed. This effect demonstrates an important role of quantum coherence in optics. The transparency and the absorption resonances could be used in high-precision metrology, atomic clocks and magnetometry. Oxford University Press 2002.
