Preparation of mercuryanthracene derivatives: -stacking, HgCl and Hg interactions in the X-ray crystal structure of polymeric 9-chloromercurioanthracene Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • 9-Lithio-anthracene and 9,10-dilithioanthracene react with mercury(II)chloride in THF to afford 9-chloromercurio-anthracene (1) and 9,10-bis(chloromercurio)-anthracene (2), respectively. Compounds 1 and 2 have been characterized by 1H-, 13C- and 199Hg-NMR spectroscopy as well as by elemental analysis and CI mass spectrometry. The structure of 1 has been determined by X-ray crystallography. In the solid state, 1 forms polymeric chains that are cemented by concomitant --stacking, HgCl and Hg-system interactions. 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
