MICROCOMPUTERS IN HYDRAULICS-HYDROLOGY EDUCATION. Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Microcomputer software is utilized for pipe network analysis, unsteady flow in pipelines, watershed modeling, flood studies, reservoir operations, dam break analysis, and groundwater systems analysis. Using the microcomputer, the student can study complex systems and evaluate various alternative modifications to the system to solve a specific problem. The student can work on real problems without spending considerable time on long and tedious hand computations. In drainage analysis cook-book and short-cut hand computations are being replaced by deterministic event simulation models. Cross-drainage structures can be accurately sized, using the basic principles of hydraulics and hydrology rather than chart and nomograms that may not be applicable.
