abstract
This paper presents a comparative evaluation of alternative state-of-the-art methods for predicting the flow characteristics of a flood wave resulting from a breached dam. The paper is based upon an investigation conducted under the Military Hydrology Research Program of the Waterways Experiment Station (WES) of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. The objective of the study was to develop an overall assessment of the state-of-the-art of dam-breach flood wave analysis which could serve as a basis for selecting and adapting specific models for military use. However, the discussion here is general in scope and equally pertinent to either civilian or military applications.
