abstract

  • A simulation study was performed to evaluate the amount of water which can be supplied by a system of 12 reservoirs located in the Brazos River Basin. The generalized computer models HEC-3 Reservoir System Analysis for Conservation and TAMU Water Rights Analysis Program were used, along with other supporting programs. The modeling was based on historical period-of-record monthly streamflows. Several alternative reservoir operating strategies and water use scenarios were considered. System operations were found to significantly increase yields. Water rights constraints significantly decrease yields. Although the investigation focused on a specific case study reservoir system, the models adopted, study approach, and findings are pertinent to other river basins as well.
