Comparative nitrogen application methods for tart cherry trees in Michigan Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The goal of this research was to promote optimal growth and vigor of tart cherry trees while minimizing nitrate contamination of groundwater in areas of stone fruit production in Michigan. The research focused primarily upon tree response, and secondarily upon nitrate movement under various application practices. Specific objectives were to determine the effect of nitrogen fertilizer application method, timing and amount on the response of tart cherry trees, and to determine the nitrate concentration of soil water below the root zone over time.
