Comparative analysis of axial and shear viscoelastic properties of asphalt mixes Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • A comparative analysis was performed based on the results of testing four mixes with the same aggregate source and four, modified and unmodified, binders. The shear and axial tests were performed at two temperatures of 46C and 58C, a range of frequencies, and different stress (or strain) values. The differences between the axial and shear tests were detailed in terms of the mode of loading (controlled stress versus controlled strain), direction and reversal of principal stresses, and stress and strain distribution within a test specimen were found to be the main factors causing the discrepancies between the shear and axial testing results.
