abstract
A project which examined the relationship between properties determined during Superpave gyratory compaction (SGC) process and the rutting resistance of an asphalt mixture was discussed. Results indicated that the best compaction parameter related to asphalt mixture shear stiffness and rutting potential was N-SRmax. N-SRmax is the number of gyrations at which the stress ratio reaches a maximum value. Unlike other parameters, the N-SRmax value for an asphalt mixture specimen can be determined immediately following the compaction process.
