abstract
A modified CANDE program was used to analyze a full factorial set of design parameters for buried, large diameter high density polyethylene profile-wall pipe. A new pipe subroutine was used in conjunction with a hyperbolic stress-strain curve soil model to analyze the effects of trench width, in-situ soil type, depth of water table and depth of cover. Design time, pipe stiffness, and backfill type were also analyzed. Regression analysis was used to find the best-fit equations for pipe-wall strain and vertical deflection. In-situ soil type and backfill density were determined to be the most important design parameters. Strain was found to be the controlling distress type.
