The process of rehabilitation of Runway 9-27 at the Intercontinental Airport, Houston, is described. The runway made up of lime cement fly ash was withered due to the extensive usage and stress conditions. The airport authority incurred losses upto $50,000 and the job of rehabilitation had to be done quickly. The asphalt surface of the runway was worn out and techniques such as the application of polymer modified asphalt by stress absorbing membrane interlayer (SAMI) were emphasized.
