abstract
A study was conducted to review the use of numerous MN2S2 complexes and their application as metallodithiolate ligands. The investigations focused on contiguous S-N-N-S tetradentate ligands that accommodated square planar binding and present the thiolate sulfurs in the cis-configuration that was conducive for them serving as bidentate S-donor ligands. The study also described bimetallic complexes evolving from MN2S2 metalloligands in combination with a transition metal acceptor bearing diatomic ligands as reporter groups of the electron-donating ability of the MN2S ligands.
