abstract
Infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, and electronic spectral studies of several M(CO)5C(OC2H5)R compounds have been carried out, where M = Cr and W and R = CH3, n-C4H9, and C5H5. - and -bonding properties of the carbene ligands are interpreted using Graham's approach. These results indicate the carbene ligands to be comparable to phosphines in -donor strengths and much better donors than a carbonyl ligand. At the same time the carbene groups behave as strong acceptors. 1970, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
