abstract
A method is proposed for estimating the undrained capacity of drilled shaft foundations subjected to static uplift loads. The method accounts for random variability of soil properties, uncertainty in measurements, and inaccuracies in empirical correlations between in-situ measurements and design soil properties. A full probabilistic description is specified for the foundation capacity. This description depends on several uncertain parameters that can be estimated from soil data. Qualitative assessment of some parameters is given, but detailed quantification is beyond the scope of this paper.
