HSPF modeling of the Charles River Watershed Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The Charles River Watershed Association initiated a project that developed a hydrologic model for the river watershed. The model, Hydrologic Simulation Program-FORTRAN (HSPF), performs a detailed simulation of the hydrologic cycle, which can then be used as a basis for water quality simulations. A good HSPF hydrologic simulation is achieved even if input meteorological data is unavailable at the correct timescale or in the ideal location. Good calibrations are obtained by adjusting the daily temperature and precipitation data. The adjustments allow good calibration because the response time of the watershed is approximately 2-3 days. However, the daily adjusted precipitation is not likely to perform as well as for water quality simulations.
