Cost decomposition of linear systems with application to model reduction Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • A means is provided to assess the value or cost 1 of each component of a large scale system, when the total cost is a quadratic funot.ion. Such a cost clccornposit.ion I of the system has several important usos. "hen the component.s represent physical subsystems which can fail, the component cost is useful in failure mode analysis. When the components represent rnat. liemat.ioal cquaf.ions which may he t.runcated , the component cost becomes a criterion for model t-runcat-ion. In t.hia lat-ter event. component costs provide a mechanism by which the specific quadratic control object. ivee dictate which componcnt.s should be retained in the model reduction process. This information can be valuable in model reduct.ion and ecentralized control problems. 1980 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
