abstract

  • Total storm depths over a given area are assumed to be composed of a regional component, explaining the large-scale variations of rainfall, and a local component, explaining the small-scale variations. To study the characteristics of the regional component, a number of storms over a given area are analyzed. For each storm, a double Fourier analysis of the total storm depths is performed, and the principal harmonics of the storm are determined. The local component, or storm residuals, is obtained by subtracting the periodic component of the storm from the total storm depths. A theoretical model for the isotropic normalized autorrelation function is proposed and discussed.
