Hydrogeomorphology modelling with a physically based river basin evolution model Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • A model of catchment evolution that explicitly describes the evolution of the catchment will be discussed. Catchment elevations are modelled from sediment transport continuity within the basin. The evolution of the channel network is modelled by a threshold mechanism which is based on the runoff mechanisms of the hillslopes. These elevations interact with the channels through the assumption that different erosion processes occur in the hillslopes and channels. The channels interact with the elevations through the threshold dependence on hillslope properties such as the contributing area and slope. The runoff processes modelled include both the Hortonian and subsurface saturation mechanisms. (from Authors)
