Modal analysis of an OWC based wave energy plant Conference Paper

abstract

• Since its commissioning in 1991, three different power modules have been tested at the OWC based wave energy plant at Vizhinjam. Experimental observations on the near shore bottom standing OWC show that the hydrodynamic efficiency of the plant is influenced by the nature of the power module although the resonant frequency is unaffected. The OWC also exhibits a non linearity with respect to incident wave power. A theoretical framework for understanding these results is provided on the basis of a modal equivalent circuit.
