Experimental modeling of breaking wave impingement on a tension-leg platform Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The present study employs bubble image velocimetry (BIV) to investigate the flow kinematics of a breaking wave impinging on a moored geometry-simplified tension-leg platform (TLP). A plunging breaker was generated using wave focusing method and repeated measurements were taken to obtain the mean flow field. The simplified model mainly allows surging and heaving motion. A high speed camera was used to record images for the BIV velocity determination. Images were taken from two perpendicular planes: side view and top view. Validation on the measurements at the intersecting line of both planes was performed. The BIV technique was also applied to determine the structure velocity.
