abstract
In this paper, computations of turbulent flow over a bluff body and the resulting acoustic signature in the far field are performed. Turbulent flow field computations are performed using a newly developed technique known as Partially Averaged Navier Stokes (PANS). Results of turbulent flow structures in comparison with those of standard unsteady RANS and Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) reveal that PANS is capable of providing enhanced structures of turbulent vortex shedding under the same grid resolutions. The near field turbulent flow is coupled to the far field acoustic prediction model developed by Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings.
