  • Lecturing is no doubt one of the most common forms of instruction used in American education, regardless of whether one is teaching school children or managers. What constitutes lecturing, however, is not as clear as it might seem. Moreover, many people do not stop to consider the advantages and disadvantages of lecturing before they embrace or reject it. And when they do choose to use it, even more people fail to consider how they can improve on it. The purpose of this article is to help enhance the instructional effectiveness of management educators by providing detail about the strengths and weaknesses of the lecture approach and how lectures can be made more valuable to listeners. © 1989, MCB UP Limited
