abstract
Ovariectomized mares (n = 6) were treated with intravenous saline or 67 or 667 g of a synthetic ACTH fragment, (1-24)-OH, in a 2 3 crossover study. In mares receiving (1-24)-OH, plasma concentrations of cortisol were significantly (P < 0.01) elevated above those of control mares. Mares which received 667 g (1-24)-OH had significantly (P < 0.01) elevated plasma concentrations of testosterone compared with mares which received the low dose of (1-24)-OH and with control mares. Plasma concentrations of estradiol and progesterone were not increased by administration of (1-24)-OH. 1989.
