abstract
Pulmonary surfactant dysfunction in neonatal foals has a complex pathogenesis but is generally associated with lung immaturity. Neonatal foals with surfactant dysfunction often present with signs of respiratory distress; however, other causes of respiratory distress must be ruled out. Early identification of the disease and evaluation of arterial blood gas are critical for successful treatment.
