abstract
Immediately initiating appropriate therapy for pulmonary surfactant dysfunction, especially correcting hypoxemia and atelectasis, and avoiding pulmonary edema are critical in successfully treating respiratory distress syndrome in neonatal foals. Furthermore, preventing and treating sepsis and ensuring adequate passive transfer of immunity and good supportive care are extremely important in treating all critically ill neonatal foals.
