abstract
The popularity of the WWW has prompted the design of scalable clustered servers. Data and request distribution policies greatly impact performance in such servers. In this paper, request response time is used as a measure in evaluating these policies. Our results indicate that policies favoring locality seem to perform better than policies favoring load balance. We propose and evaluate a dynamic client-based request distribution policy. 1999 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
