abstract
The implementation of RF coil arrays for MR (magnetic resonance) imaging is discussed. Two types of coil arrays are considered, switchable arrays and arrays for parallel signal acquisition. The design of switched coil arrays using mutually coupled coils is described, and a relationship for the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) loss due to the inductive coupling is given. This result should be useful in designing coupled coil systems. The modification of a clinical system for two-channel operation is also described.
