abstract
This paper introduces an improved paradigm for assessing transmission system loadability. The proposed measure, which expresses loadability in terms of a percent loading of system buses, is easy to calculate and provides a more physical understanding of the loadability of various areas of a system. When used in conjuction with system reduction techniques, percent loading estimates quickly identify the weakest areas of a system. The method can be used to assess the effects of proposed power transactions on system security, providing an important component to the determination of transmission system capacity. 1996 IEEE.
