The work of Lorenz, a danish physicist and Lorentz, a dutch physicist in the arena of electromagnetic fields is discussed. Lorenz proposed the standard potentials of Neumann in terms of the instantaneous charge, current density and position. The mathematical expression of the vector potential developed by Lorenz is now recognized as Lorentz potential due to electromagnetic modification introduced by Lorentz.
