The exact integral equation for the tangential electric field in a slot in a parallel-plate waveguide covered by a dielectric slab is formulated and solved numerically. The tangential slot electric field is presented for both wide and narrow slots. Results are given in terms of the efficiency with which an incident TEM wave in the parallel-plate waveguide is transmitted and reflected in the waveguide and coupled into surface and space waves above the waveguide. Far field space wave power patterns are presented for narrow and wide slots with and without a dielectric slab cover.
