Effects of CDMA transmitter filtering in overlay systems Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • An application that has been proposed is the overlay of a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system on a frequency band that is also populated by narrowband users from another system. The two systems can coexist in the same frequency band as a result of their intrinsic properties. This paper will focus on the degradation in the performance of the narrowband system and how it can be lessened. In particular, we will expand on an idea proposed in [2], the use of a notch filter at the CDMA transmitter to avoid frequency bands currently occupied by narrowband users. It will be shown that without this filtering, the overlay of a CDMA system renders the existing narrowband system inoperable.
