Hybrid finite element-mixed-potential integral equation-discrete complex image approach for inhomogeneous waveguides in layered media Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • An efficient approach which combines the finite element method (FEM), the mixed-potential integral equation method (MPIE), and the discrete complex image method (DCIM) for the analysis of inhomogeneous waveguides in layered media is presented. This approach is numerically efficient, because the FEM-MPIE formulation involves less singular kernels and leads to a predominantly sparse matrix equation which can be solved efficiently using a general sparse matrix package. Furthermore, the spectral integrals are approximated using the DCIM; thus, the time-consuming numerical integration is avoided, resulting in significant increase of efficiency. Excellent agreements are found between computed and published results.
