abstract
Integral equations for the current density on a TM and a TEexcited conducting strip embedded in a dielectric slab are derived and solved numerically. The Sommerfeldtype integrals incorporated in the kernels of the integral equations are evaluated numerically along various specified paths in the complex spectral plane, and a path switching criterion is used to maximize the efficiency of the integration. Results are presented for current induced on strips in lossy and lossless slabs for both plane wave and line current excitations. The effects of varying slab thickness, strip width, displacement of the strip from the slab center, and the loss tangent of the slab material on the current distribution are demonstrated.
