DISTRIBUTED PROCESSING MICROPROCESSOR BASED HIERARCHICALLY STRUCTUED (DMH) RELAYING SYSTEM - SOME BASIC CONSIDERATIONS. Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The area of Computer Relaying (CR) is the environment in which one dedicated, relatively large computer system (at least a minicomputer) has been investigated previously. Some problems are discussed related to the new concept of CR based on a network of microcomputers. A new Distributed Processing Microprocessor Based Hierarchically Structured (DMH) system for the protection of electric power systems is discussed. Up to date techniques and technologies applied to perform the protection function are briefly evaluated as they are related to the DMH concept. Some basic characteristics related to the protection of power systems are analyzed. Some basic characteristics related to the protection of power systems are analyzed. Considerations related to the new concept are stated and the basic logical structure of the DMH system is specified. A design example of a Microprocessor Based Distance Protection (MDP) device is given as a part of the proposed overall system. Performances of the proposed DMH system are discussed and some ideas for further work are outlined.
