abstract
The bifurcation concept is redefined in terms of equivalency of phase portraits. The concept is linked to practical and generic assumptions of a class of nonlinear systems. One example is used to demonstrate that the bifurcation occurs when the transversality condition is violated. The question of how to computationally locate such bifurcation points remains to be solved.
