Optimal and suboptimal frame synchronizers for optical multi-pulse PPM Conference Paper

abstract

• We investigate the problem of packet synchronization for direct detection optical Multi-pulse PPM (MPPM) systems with known symbol boundaries. The ML rule for locating packets is derived, various approximations to the optimal rule that are easier to implement are identified, and an upper bound on correct synchronization probability is obtained.
