abstract
ATM switching gives rise to new problems in queueing theory which cannot be solved using the mathematical tools in common use in conventional queueing theory. These problems seem to originate from the bursty character of the stream of data packets arriving at an ATM buffer. Description of the algorithms used to estimate the Quality of Service parameters of a buffer is presented.
