Aggregation semantics and NF/sup 2/ model of data Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Aggregation is formalized in terms of the power set and the Cartesian product operators. It is shown that aggregation semantics can be represented by a labeled directed acyclic graph (LDAG). Vertices and edges of this graph are labeled to capture the semantics (constraints) of aggregations. Examples of popular real-world aggregations are given in terms of this LDAG. It is argued that the non-first-normal-form (NF2) data model provides a natural means for implementation of this aggregation DAG.
