SIMULATION OF A TWO-STROKE CYCLE, LOCOMOTIVE ENGINE USING DIESEL OR COAL FUELS.
An analytical model of a two-stroke cycle, reciprocating, compression-ignition engine was developed for either diesel fuel or dry particle coal fuel. Submodels for the engine processes were combined with a thermodynamic analysis to yield cylinder gas conditions as a function of crank angle. From this information performance parameters were computed. The cycle simulation was used to predict the nature and extent of the gas exchange process, combustion process, and engine performance as a function of engine parameters and fuels. In particular, engine performance was determined for a range of scavenging parameters and coal particle sizes.
