Entropy and energy disssipation in water resources Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • This book contains a selection of papers arising from an international conference, held in Maratea, Italy, in June 1991. The six sections encompass a range of the major aspects of entropy-based developments in water resources. Section 1 presents a discussion on the perspectives of entropy and energy dissipation. The applications of entropy in hydrology are considered in Section 2, water resources in Section 3, and hydraulics in Section 4. Sections 5 and 6 deal with the applications of energy principles in, respectively, hydrology and hydraulics. Examples of the application of the entropy concept include channel network analysis, transfer of information in rainfall series, hydrological data analysis, hydrological forecasting, water distribution systems, hydrologic network design, water quality monitoring networks, open channel hydraulics and bridge scour analysis. Energy principles applications include channel networks, overland flow morphology, the study of drought, fluid flow, river mechanics, channel flow, velocity profiles, wave type flow and river regime studies. -P.Davies
