abstract

• This paper, Part I in a series of two, describes an analytical model for the entire irrigation cycle of closed borders, using a volume balance approach. The irrigation cycle is simulated in five phases: advance, storage, vertical recession, horizontal recession, and impounding recession. The model will be verified with experimental data in Part II. 1989.
